Datsun 240Z Restoration - Final Bodywork Stages (Part 3)
In this video you can see all the bodywork getting completed on the Datsun 240Z. I continued on the rusty rocker panel where part 2 ended. Removing the outer shell revealed a lot more rust. I also had to replace the inner rocker panel and the sheet with the complex shape below that. The wheel arch was also quite rusted and also needed to be replaced. I remade all the panels myself out of flat 1mm steel sheet using a bunch of different tools.
With an endoscope I could see that the driver side was also very rusty inside, alltough it looked fine looking from the outside. That was definitely a good idea, because there was alos a lot more rust hidden, which required the replacement of more pane...

Datsun 240Z Restoration - The Bodywork Odyssey (Part 2)
Просмотров 3,7 млн4 месяца назад
In this video I start doing all the bodywork on the car to get it ready for blasting. This is the first half of it. The second half is coming next week in episode 3. First I vacuumed the whole car and removed the sound deadening. Next I needed to remove the undercoating on the rotisserie. I used an infrared lamp and a scraper to remove it. I also did the same on the fenders. Now the car is read...
1973 Datsun 240Z Restoration (Part 1) - The Teardown
Просмотров 3,2 млн10 месяцев назад
This is the first episode from the restoration of a 1973 Datsun 240Z. This car was driven in Los Angeles California and only had one owner. It still had a California blue plate on it and the cars registration expired in 1983, so it was not driven anymore at least for 40 years. For all these years it sat in a garage in California until its owner died and then it got sold to a european car dealer...
I turn a Nut into a tiny Adjustable Wrench
Просмотров 12 млнГод назад
In this video I'm turning a stainless steel M20 nut into a tiny adjustable wrench. All three parts are completely made out of one single nut. First I turned the thread and the hexagon away on the lathe. After cutting a slit into it I was able to open it up with the help of a torch. A few heats later I had a very straight and flat piece of stainless steel. I first went then on the milling machin...
Antique Two Handed Cleaver - Restoration
Просмотров 4 млнГод назад
In this video I'm restoring a very big cleaver. These cleavers are also called „splitter“. They were used by butchers before they had electric saws to help their work. There are a few characteristics that make it very obvious that this is a cleaver: the very thick blade and the big angle on the cutting edge, the hole in the front to hang it on the wall, the very long handle to hold it with two ...
Rusty Deadlocked Vise - Restoration (the 3rd)
Просмотров 1,8 млнГод назад
In this video I'm restoring a very small rusty and deadlocked Gressel bench vise. Its jaws are just 80mm wide. My friend has found this tiny vise on the steel waste and I thought this would be cool for a video. On first sight it was only seized and had some additional holes. When disassembling I also quickly realized that something on the half round part was not right and after sandblasting I a...
Antique Headphones with Broken Electronics - Restoration
Просмотров 3,7 млнГод назад
In this video I'm restoring a pair of antique German headphones. I've found these headphones at an online auction for $30 and I thought they look pretty cool for a restoration project. Unfortunately they didn't work anymore. I measured the coils and three of the four were broken. That fact put this little project to a whole new challenge. It required a ton of research to completely understandin...
1930s Desk Lamp - Restoration
Просмотров 6 млнГод назад
In this video I'm restoring a very stylish German desk lamp from the 1930's. This model is called „Vitalux Type G101“ made by „Osram“. Vitalux lamps always had UV bulps. They were advertised as healthy lamps back in the 30's to get your vitamin D at home. My friend has found this lamp at the local junk yard. I really liked its design, so I bought it for $25. To be honest I first thought this sh...
Early 1900s Electric Door Bell - Restoration

In this video I'm going to restore an antique german electric door bell. I've bought this door bell from an online auction for $45. It was in pretty rough condition, but it was still working, kind of. What I first saw as a quick and easy project turned out to be a really tough and time consuming challenge. Remaking the broken copper part needed a lot of trial and error until I have finally mana...

In this video I'm going to build a lighter completely from scratch out of solid stainless steel. I have this idea from another RUclips video. I have reached out to him and asked for permission to copy his design, I'm ve...
1895 German Book Press "Alexanderwerk" - Restoration

In this video I'm going to restore a very rusty, broken and completely stuck antique german book press. After a bit of research I was able to find out that this book press was made by Alexanderwerk in 1895. The disassembly was quite tough. All the threads have been very rusty and only got loose with a lot of heat and penetrating oil. The feet and top plate had rivet connections. Removing the he...
Antique Firefighter Axe - Restoration

In this video I'm going to restore an antique firefighter axe. I've always wanted to restore an axe since the beginning of my channel, but I've never found a cool looking one. I've found it at my friends place, he took it home from the steel waste and sold it to me f...
Antique Seized Adjustable Wrench - Restoration

In this video I'm going to restore an antique adjustable wrench. My friend found this wrench at the steel waste and I bought it from him for $10. First of all, who can find a 240 z in such condition? Datsuns in such condition don't exist. They rusted while waiting to be sold at the dealership, that's how bad their sheet metal was.

That particular solvent varnish + linseed oil doens't look so good this time - - though it is indeed the right thing to do. Anyways, nice idea to use those solid little bars to draw the main bolt through (though I think even a pair of pencils would've worked). Also a great idea to blue only the inside grip pads.

For once I don't approve of the highily-destructive approach. Any rotary drill tool (Dremel, etc.) has thin cut-off tools that could have sliced off those rivets w/ minimal damage. I know you're going to tell me you replaced the handle anyway, but IMO this what downright repulsive. Not like you at all.

I would not have drilled those 2 holes for pins inside the housing. I would've punched them there, then dissassembled and drilled them "offline". Especially after you've introduced grease, this just makes things messy inside.

Just awesome! Your work on the coils was just out of this world. If you would please - a question: what material did you make the banana plug insulators [and while we're at it - the bobbins] from? Delrin? Nylon? Something else?

You should consider not hammering a naked bolt - it can mushroom. I've had good results re-threading the nut back on (loosely), then hammering.
